Bachus & Schanker Celebrate the Joy of Giving Free Legal Services

JAMLAC Joy of Giving 2014

On Friday, December 5, the Joy of Giving Reception, hosted by Denver law firm Bachus & Schanker at their office on Wynkoop, achieved a milestone, raising $18,565 for JAMLAC (Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Clinic); a more than 50 percent increase over the previous year. Guests mingled, hovered over the items at auction, and stood watch over some potential prizes – including an official Denver Broncos helmet signed by Julius Thomas, tight end for the Denver Broncos and Nuggets/Lakers tickets.

Founding partner Kyle Bachus made a brief appearance before heading out to help set up the annual Dolls for Daughters Toy Shop (held December 6) founded by his wife Jessica.

Bachus & Schanker ‘s other co-founder, Darin Schanker, addressed the crowd, sharing the story of JAMLAC and the work of its dedicated executive director, Steve Thompson. Then Andrea Gomez, a teenage crime victim helped by JAMLAC services and now a thriving student, spoke tearfully about her struggles over the past year and her gratitude to JAMLAC.

Among the attendees was the University of Denver’s Vice Chancellor, Scott R. Lumpkin, who is a longtime supporter of JAMLAC.
