As a young man working for his family law practice, James Olsen witnessed the impact that his father's work had on people. He would spend his summers and breaks from school working as an assistant at the Olsen firm.

On the surface, it might seem like nepotism that James would become a lawyer, but as James' father would show, no one can hand over a career in law. It takes hard work, dedication and courage. At times, James felt his father was actually trying to discourage him from pursuing a career in law, but he felt it was a natural fit.

In his third year as a law student at the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law, James traveled abroad for a unique opportunity in London. While studying the European Union's British Law Program, James' professor recognized his academic achievement with the Top Advocate Award. After graduating in 2005, he then passed the New York Bar exam (believed to be the most difficult within the legal community) as well as the Colorado Bar exam and began his career practicing law.

Before joining Bachus & Schanker, LLC, James headed back to his hometown and worked for his father's small law firm outside of Boulder. He represented individuals who had been wronged by large corporations in employment cases.

Named equity partner at Bachus & Schanker, LLC in 2013, James specializes in litigating complex Colorado workers' compensation and third-party claims. He considers the partnership a highlight in his career - validation for all the years of hard work.

James is an accomplished speaker and has shared his insights and professional experience as subject matter expert on many occasions. He has been honored to speak at many organizational events, including the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association; Lorman, a nonprofit professional development organization and the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) - to name a few.

In September 2013, James presented as thought leader on Colorado labor laws, workers' compensation and Social Security/disability to a group of union members and attorneys at the annual AFL-CIO dinner. He shared his insights on the complicated issues concerning Colorado labor laws to a room full of his peers and colleagues.

James strongly believes in giving back to his community and has a legacy of volunteerism. He enjoys serving as a partner in philanthropy with Bachus & Schanker, LLC, where he surrounds himself with like-minded individuals who support many worthy organizations.

James and his wife regularly participate in events and fundraisers in support of their community. In his spare time, this Colorado native enjoys fishing, camping, tennis, snowboarding and spending time with his young daughter.
