CTLA 2009 Convention

CLE continuing legal credits

Recently, the partners and associate attorneys of Bachus & Schanker, LLC attended the annual 2009 Colorado Trial Lawyers Association Convention (CTLA) held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

About the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association

Founded in 1953, the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association is Colorado's largest speciality bar association. CTLA is comprised of Colorado trial lawyers who are committed to the protection and advancement of individual rights and to the advancement of trial advocacy skills, high ethical standards and professionalism in the ongoing effort to preserve and improve the American system of jurisprudence.

This annual convention is an invaluable learning opportunity for the attorneys at Bachus & Schanker to continue to learn their craft by taking their required Continuing Legal Credits (CLE). Every practicing attorney is required to take 45 credits within a 3-year period including seven ethics credits.

Dr. Michael D. Freeman presents scientifically based legal principles

Some of this year's topics included strategies by Dr. Michael D. Freeman, a Forensic Epidemiologist, on how to present scientific information to a jury in an understandable way. He focused on showing how to demonstrate, with a common-sense approach, information about injuries sustained by victims of Colorado auto accidents. Dr. Freeman also presented new scientific evidence that demonstrated how whiplash injuries caused by low speed cars crashes can affect the brain's anatomy. Other CLE topics included, How to Tell Your Client's Story, a Legal Ethics Program and Dealing with Medicare.

Founding partners Darin L. Schanker and J. Kyle Bachus both hold leadership positions with CTLA. Mr. Schanker is the Past President for 2009 and a member of the Executive Committee, Lobby Council and Public Relations Committee. Mr. Bachus is a member of the Board of Directors and is Co-Chair of the Auto Litigators Committee.
