Pharmaceutical Litigation
Many of the commonly prescribed drugs on the market today have serious side effects. If you are currently taking or considering taking any of these drugs, it is important to educate yourself on the potential risks you may be exposing yourself to. In particular, the defective drug Vioxx® is one of the most recent and largest drug recalls in Colorado and United States history. Baush & Lomb's Unfortunate Decision
On May 15, 2006, Bausch & Lomb announced its decision to permanently remove and recall all ReNu® with MoistureLoc® products worldwide due to its link in the rise in Fusarium keratitis (fungal keratitis) infections occurring in contact lens wearers. Information has surfaced that in 2005, Bausch & Lomb was notified of high bacteria infection rates related to their product in Hong Kong and other Asian cities. Bausch & Lomb withdrew their product in those areas in 2005, however, Bausch & Lomb continued to manufacture and sell their products in the United States until May 2006. This decision exposed contact lens wearers across the country, including in Fort Collins, Denver, and all Colorado, to contact lens infection.
Currently the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating reports of fungal keratitis, and their findings continue to show an increased risk for Fusarium keratits linked to using Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu® with MoistureLoc® in the month prior to the onset of infection.

The Symptoms and Damage of a Fusarium Keratitis Eye Infection
Fusarium keratitis is a severe eye infection which can cause inflammation of the cornea and may potentially cause blindness. Typically the infection is caused by bacteria. Symptoms of fungal keratis include eye pain and discomfort as well as a decrease in vision and light hypersensitivity. Treatment options for this serious eye infection may include antifungal medication such as natamycin, nystatin, and amphotericin B. Depending on the severity of the infection, surgery may also be necessary to remove any infected ulcers or lesions, or possibly a corneal transplant. If you or someone you know has used or is using Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu® with Moisture Loc® contact lens solution, or if you have any of the above referenced symptoms, it is important to see your doctor. If the doctor confirms that the symptoms indicate Fusarium keratitis, it is essential that you contact a Fort Collins or Denver eye infection attorney from our firm as soon as possible to initiate the process of getting you full compensation for your pain and suffering.

ReNu® with MoistureLoc® – Potential Problems
Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu® with MoistureLoc® was introduced to the market at the end of 2004, and since then 75 million bottles have been produced. ReNu® with MoistureLoc® contains a unique disinfectant never before used in contact lens solutions. It also uses 3 polymers as a comfort agent for contact lens wearers rather than 1 polymer, which is standard in most other contact lens solutions. The combination of the unique disinfectant and the 3 polymers creates an impenetrable film that traps bacteria and prevents the disinfectant from working.

VIOXX®
In Colorado, a pharmaceutical litigation lawyer at Bachus & Schanker, LLC can provide experienced legal representation to clients who have suffered serious health conditions as a result of Vioxx® use. Vioxx®, a prescription painkiller and anti-inflammatory medication, was available for use by American patients for just over five years before being pulled voluntarily from the world market by its manufacturer, Merck &. Co. This voluntary recall and subsequent injury lawsuits have caught the notice of our Colorado product liability experts. A lawyer at our firm can review your claim and help determine if you are eligible for compensation for your injuries.
What is Vioxx®?
A non-steroidal option, Vioxx® was used frequently to manage the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis for both children and adults, as well as to relieve menstrual and osteoarthritis symptoms and ease other forms of acute pain suffered by adults. A primary selling point of Vioxx® was that it purportedly caused less ulcers and stomach problems than other medications of its type.
The Vioxx® Drug Recall
Despite its short run in the marketplace, healthcare providers and patients are concerned by the results of the APPROV (Adenomatous Polyp Prevention on Vioxx®) study that prompted Merck's withdrawal of the drug in Colorado, the United States, and the world. The study was halted prematurely in late September, after long-term patients (particularly those using Vioxx® for more than 18 months) showed a significantly increased risk of suffering heart attacks and strokes, as a result of an increased likelihood of developing blood clots. While the Food and Drug Administration has not issued a recall for Vioxx®, Merck has voluntarily removed the drug from pharmacies worldwide. It has since been found that Vioxx® is five times more likely to increase the risk of heart attack than the over-the-counter pain reliever Naproxen. If you or a loved one has exhibited any of these symptoms after using Vioxx®, a Colorado product liability lawyer at our firm is ready to provide you with the legal assistance that you need to file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit against Merck.
Vioxx® Lawsuits Around the Country
Drug companies and the FDA have recently fallen under close scrutiny for their efforts to have medications approved more quickly, increasing the possibility of health hazards to consumers. It has been alleged that Merck was aware of the fatal side effects caused by Vioxx® and pushed the medication onto the market anyway to boost declining profits. Needless to say, our Colorado pharmaceutical litigation lawyers are concerned for victims of such careless actions.
Many individuals around the country have been negatively affected by Vioxx® use. Whether they have become ill or have died as a result of the drug, Merck is responsible for compensating victims for their irresponsible actions. It is estimated that the number of lawsuits against the pharmaceutical giant has now reached more than 5,000, and our Colorado product liability lawyers are prepared to help you or your loved one join this growing group of victims and receive deserved financial restitution.
$253 Million Verdict in First Vioxx® Trial
A Texas jury has awarded the widow of Robert Ernst $253 million for her husband's Vioxx® related death. Merck initially believed that they would easily win the thousands of suits against them; however, these recent events in Texas have proven that Merck has underestimated the validity and strength of these cases. Analysts have estimated that Merck stands to lose approximately $18 billion fighting these suits around the country. If you or a loved one has been negatively effected as a result of Vioxx® use, contact our Colorado pharmaceutical litigation lawyers for assistance in filing your lawsuit against Merck today.
