Bachus & Schanker Sponsor Colorado MADD for 2012

Bachus & Schanker is pleased to continue its commitment to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) in 2012 by again serving as the organization’s statewide sponsor. The attorneys of Bachus & Schanker have extensive experience working with the victims of drunk drivers and with victims’ families. We are well familiar with the devastation wrought at the hands of individuals who choose to take the wheel of a motor vehicle after consuming dangerous amounts of alcohol. Since 2007, we have been a proud supporter of MADD and its ongoing mission to make our roads safer by eliminating drunk driving across our state.

Last year, there were 127 fatalities on Colorado’s roadways brought about because of alcohol-impaired driving. According to MADD, drunk driving will impact one in three Americans. Since 2009, the state of Colorado has provided strong incentives for the use of ignition interlocks on the cars of convicted DUI offenders. In exchange for receiving a shorter license suspension, these drivers agree to have an interlock ignition device installed on their vehicle. This action has helped reduce drunk driving deaths by 28 percent in our state.

About MADD

Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) was founded 32 years ago by a heartbroken mother who lost her 13-year old daughter in a crash involving an alcohol-impaired driver. Today, MADD is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization working to protect families from drunk drivers and underage drinking. Through the awareness of the issue of drunk driving and legislation the organization has spawned, alcohol-related fatalities in the United States have decreased from 30,000 in 1980 to fewer than 17,000 today.
