Cinco Cinco Scholarship Run

When participants took to the streets of Fort Collins for the 2013 Cinco Cinco 5K Scholarship Run/Walk on May 4, 2013, Bachus & Schanker had the honor of serving as the presenting sponsor for the event, which is now in its nineteenth year.

The event draws nearly 300 participants each year, including serious runners, walkers, and casual athletes. Following the 5K event, children took part in the Fun Run lap around the Oval at CSU.

Cinco Cinco was started in 1994 in support of the Gil Gutierrez Memorial Scholarship. Gil Gutierrez, the ombudsman at Colorado State University from 1990-1993, was killed by a drunk driver while jogging in August 1993. As an ombudsman, Gil served as a mediator helping students, faculty, and staff resolve conflicts. His death was especially hard for the campus community because he had a unique talent for working with all people regardless of age, race, culture, or status. Gil had a way of making others feel comfortable sharing their feelings. He listened carefully and always responded in a manner that was fair. Gil’s life remains an inspiration to the university and community of Fort Collins.

The scholarship that bears Gil’s name was established to encourage CSU students to continue their education and honor Gil’s legacy by becoming caring members of the community.

If you or a member of your family has been the victim of drunk driving, we encourage you to contact Bachus & Schanker for caring, experienced advice and legal representation.
