The Bachus & Schanker, LLC Cares Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Denver-based personal injury law firm, contributed $101,793 to nonprofit organizations in 2014 through direct and in-kind donations, surpassing 2013 donations by more than 20 percent. In addition, the team of 20 attorneys and 70 staff at Bachus & Schanker, LLC, LLC give an estimated 600 hours of their time annually to support worthy nonprofits across the state. Since launching in 2009, the Foundation has donated more than $415,000 to local nonprofits.
"We are really happy to have reached this milestone," said Darin Schanker, co-founder of Bachus & Schanker, LLC. "The Foundation has done what we intended, and that's to benefit some of the many worthy nonprofits working to improve our community, while strengthening our own internal team in the process. Our staff has received as much as we've given with our Foundation work."
The Bachus & Schanker, LLC Cares Foundation is proud to have participated in the success of many local nonprofit organizations, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Habitat for Humanity, the Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Clinic, Warren Village, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Urban Peak and Dolls for Daughters. Some notable success include:
- Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Clinic (JAMLAC): In 2014, Steve Thompson, executive director of JAMLAC, announced the expansion of office space to accommodate the growth of the organization. Increases in fundraising dollars through events like the Joy of Giving, hosted by Bachus & Schanker, LLC, has enabled JAMLAC to bring much-needed relief to many more families since the organization's inception in 2006.
- Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA): This year, CASA of Jefferson and Gilpin counties more than doubled their contributions on Colorado Gives Day. The Giving Tree had its most successful year to-date, fulfilling gift wishes for 789 kids and 357 families, with more than 200 donors. More than 200 people attended the Magical Mile Gala and raised nearly $100,000 for training and services. More than 150 people attended the Annual Champions for Children Breakfast, which exceeded its goal by more than 25 percent.
- Dolls for Daughters: In 2007, Jessica Bachus, wife of firm co-founder Kyle Bachus, started Dolls for Daughters after her daughter Kenzi was stillborn. She created an annual holiday toy drive for Colorado children who would not otherwise have toys. Last Christmas, the organization's toy shop served 739 families, providing toys, stocking stuffers, books, toothbrush/toothpaste kits, flu shots, food, access to services and more.
