Driving on I-70 may be more dangerous than you think

Posted in Semi Truck Accidents on 9/10/07

Comments Off

The Colorado Department of Transportation does its best to be ready to respond to crashes on I-70. But this job has become more difficult due to a recent rise in the number of crashes involving semi-trucks.

CDOT says that there were 58 crashes involving semis in 2004-2005. This number has risen to 74 in 2005-2006 and in 2007 there have already been 93 crashes in Summit and Clear Creek Counties. So far this year, I-70 has been shut down 151 times due to semi truck collisions. This is one of the reasons the Colorado State Patrol has added seven troopers to help slow traffic and cut down on the number of crashes. Also, a new chain law now requires that all truckers chain their tires from September to May with or without snow. Let’s hope this helps all of us to slow down and drive safely!
