The first big weekend for office parties fell on the weekend of December 14-17th and the Colorado State Patrol reported that the number of DUI arrests decreased by 40% this year.

During the same 3-day period in 2006, the Colorado State Patrol reported more than 275 DUI arrests. In 2007 there were only 285 arrests.

“We hope the decline in DUI arrests is a sign that Coloradans are getting the message that driving while impaired is a crime that will not be tolerated,” stated Col. Mark Trostel, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol.

The statistics for DUI arrests made by specific law enforcement areas are as follows:
– 65 arrests for Colorado State Patrol.
– 38 arrests for Denver Police Department.
– 25 arrests for Colorado Springs Police Department.
– 16 arrests each for Douglas and Larimer County Sheriff Offices.

This past New Year’s Eve celebration, only 77 people are reported for being arrested with a DUI as a result of the Colorado State Patrol Heat is On campaign.
